‘Saturation Station’ Family Water Play

12/9/2002

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Quassy Amusement Park here will introduce “Saturation Station,” a new interactive family water play area, for its 2003 season at Quassy Beach, park officials have announced.

The multi-level themed attraction will represent the first phase of a waterpark development at the 95-year-old lakeside park.

“Saturation Station” will include three separate components adjacent to the sandy beach at the park.

Designed by SCS Interactive of Tillamook, Ore., the waterplay system at Quassy will be one of the first of its kind in the world. SCS Interactive recently introduced the modular water system, which it calls WaterColors ™, at industry trade shows.

The play area will include more than 30 water elements to entertain all age groups. Two multi-tiered platforms will provide activities such as water cannons, bucket waterfalls and a variety of fountains.

Two water slides – 60 and 90 feet in length – will be attached to the platforms and splash down in a wading pool which will contain all three attractions. A small kiddy slide will also be incorporated into the project.

Guests will be able to get drenched under a bucket tower at the center of “Saturation Station.” The huge bucket will dump more than 300 gallons of water onto a rooftop, creating a waterfall of fun for those standing near the structure.

In addition, the park will be enhancing the beach with new rafts, lounge chairs and other amenities. The bath house is also being refurbished for 2003.

“With the addition of ‘Saturation Station’ and the improvements that are being made to the beachfront for the 2003 season, we are very excited to be able to offer young families all aspects of entertainment that they can get at major theme parks,” said George Frantzis II, vice president of the park. “Quassy will still maintain its family-affordable value for all of our guests.”

“Saturation Station” will be constructed with stainless and galvanized steel and finished in bright colors.

Treated water will be contained within the play area and circulated through a central pumping system. A walkway between the beach and “Saturation Station” will be constructed, allowing easy access between the two water attractions.

Quassy named the project during a recent brainstorming session involving park management.

Promotional materials are also being designed in-house to market the new attraction, including a logo for the interactive area.

Construction is expected to start around the first of the year with completion prior to the beach’s May 24 opening. Quassy’s 2003 season starts April 26.

“Saturation Station” will be included in the price of an all-day wristband, season pass, or separate beach admission. There is no general admission to the park.

Quassy is a traditional amusement park located on Route 64 in Middlebury, Conn. The park features more than 24 rides and attractions, a beach, games, redemption arcade, restaurant and pavilions for catered outings.
